TKS Advocates for Small Business at NFIB Healthcare Summit

TKS Leadership Helps Represent Small Business Interests in Washington, D.C.

This week, John J. Overton, Chief Financial Officer of Turn Key Solutions (TKS), joined small business leaders from across the nation in Washington, D.C., for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Healthcare Summit, a two-day advocacy event focused on addressing the healthcare challenges facing America’s small businesses.

The summit brings together business owners and organizational leaders to learn about key healthcare policy issues, participate in legislative briefings, and meet directly with members of Congress and congressional staff. More importantly, it allows small business leaders to share real-world experiences and help policymakers understand how healthcare decisions affect employers, employees, and local economies.

John’s participation is more than attendance at an industry event. It reflects TKS’s commitment to supporting and advocating for the small business community and our greatest assets: our employees. Small business drives economic growth across Louisiana and the Nation. For John, these issues are not theoretical. Earlier this year, he shared TKS’ firsthand experience with rising healthcare costs in a column published by NFIB following a congressional field hearing in Baton Rouge. His continued involvement gives him an opportunity to bring that same small business perspective to conversations with policymakers in Washington.

Bringing Main Street Perspectives to Capitol Hill

For more than 40 years, healthcare costs have remained one of the most significant concerns facing small business owners. Rising insurance premiums, limited healthcare options, and evolving regulations make it difficult for smaller employers to offer benefits that compete with those offered by big businesses and government.

The NFIB Healthcare Summit was created to ensure federal lawmakers hear those challenges directly.

Throughout the event, attendees participated in policy briefings, legislative discussions, advocacy training, and Capitol Hill meetings designed to connect small business leaders with elected officials and their staff. The goal is simple: bring the voice of Main Street businesses directly into national healthcare conversations.

Key Issues Impacting Small Businesses

Rising healthcare costs continue to create challenges for small employers working to provide competitive benefits while managing expenses and investing in their businesses. At this year’s summit, NFIB is highlighting healthcare policy priorities aimed at expanding affordable, flexible coverage options for small businesses and their employees.

Expand CHOICE Arrangements (formerly ICHRAs)

NFIB supports making Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements, now referred to as CHOICE Arrangements, a more permanent and accessible option for small businesses. These arrangements allow employers to contribute toward employees’ individual health insurance coverage while giving employees greater flexibility to select plans that fit their needs.

Expand Access to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)

Increase flexibility and accessibility of HSAs so individuals and small business employees have more options to save and pay for healthcare expenses. This streamlined version keeps the focus on the actual policy issues being discussed with lawmakers and aligns with the advocacy-focused nature of the summit.

Helping Represent Small Business Interests in the Nation’s Capital

As Chief Financial Officer of Turn Key Solutions, John J. Overton brings firsthand experience with the financial and operational challenges small businesses face, including the rising cost of providing healthcare benefits to employees. TKS is just one of the dwindling number of small businesses offering healthcare coverage; according to NFIB research, only 32% in the US offer any coverage. And TKS is one of a much smaller number that provides 100% coverage for medical, dental, and vision plans. But the companies that are still able to do this do so under increased pressure to balance continued investment in growth, innovation, and expanding their workforce.

Through policy discussions and meetings with lawmakers and congressional staff, John is helping communicate how healthcare costs and policy decisions can affect a small business’s ability to support its employees, remain competitive, invest in growth, and create jobs. By sharing firsthand experiences and participating in discussions with lawmakers, John joins other business leaders in helping ensure that policies affecting healthcare and small businesses are informed by the realities employers face every day.

“At Turn Key Solutions, our employees are our treasure, and taking care of them by offering great healthcare benefits is paramount,” said John Overton. “But with healthcare premiums increasing double digits year after year, small businesses are finding it harder to balance taking care of our employees and investing in growth and innovation. Every business that operates on a budget understands the reality of tradeoffs. America’s small business employees need our legislators to tackle this issue and make quality healthcare affordable.“

A Commitment Beyond Technology

While Turn Key Solutions is best known for helping organizations strengthen their IT operations, cybersecurity posture, and business resilience, the company’s leadership also recognizes the importance of supporting the broader business community.

Participating in initiatives such as the NFIB Healthcare Summit demonstrates a commitment to staying engaged in conversations that affect not only TKS but also the thousands of small businesses that make up the backbone of the American economy.

As national healthcare discussions continue, having leaders like John J. Overton at the table helps ensure that the perspectives of small business owners remain part of the conversation and that the voices of Main Street are heard in Washington, D.C., as policy decisions are made.
